This thesis is a case study about a large state-owned enterprise, including two parts, case and case analysis.Synthetic ammoniac fertilizer industry was once a monopoly in China. GN Company was a major player in this field. In the part of case description, the author introduces the development process of GN Company and the industry overview, and describes detail of the course of its business decisions with the enormorous changes taking place in the external environment and the final result of its closing-down.In the part of case analysis, firstly, the author analyzes its positioning and the effects of internal environment and external environment. She adopts value chain model and five-forces competition model to analyzes the strategy cost of GN Company and competition status of synthetic ammoniac fertilizer industry, points out the opportunities and threats. Following the above issues, the author analyzes the GN's multi-unit development strategy, organizational structure and financial management, elaborates the main reasons of the failure of multi-unit development strategy and other main issues within the organization structure and internal management. Besides those methods, she also uses quantitative analysis to study the chaos status of GN Company management from financial perspective. Finally, the author draws out the conclusion that GN Company did not adapt to changes of external environment so that it failed in business competition, and came to the closedown. Meanwhile, she shows some issues that should be addressed during the organizational restruction and development of the state-owned enterprises.
