On Reasons And Problems Of EU's Eastern Enlargement

European Union is the largest regional economic and political integration organization in the world. And now EU is concentrating on its eastern enlargement while furthering its deepening. The dissertation pays great attention to EU's eastern enlargement. It mainly elaborates on the reasons as well as the problems of EU's eastern enlargement.The author regards it significant to conduct a comprehensive research on EU's eastern enlargement in the new century when economic globalization, regional economic integration and interdependence are overwhelming.The dissertation is composed of five parts. In the first part, it defines EU's eastern enlargement and deals with the background and process of EU's enlargement. In the second part, which is the core content, it expounds the reasons for the EU's eastern enlargement. It argues that economic, political, cultural, social reasons together with the axis role of France and Germany constitute the forces pushing forward EU's eastern enlargement. Among these reasons, the economic factor is playing a significant and leading role in EU's eastern enlargement. In the third part, the dissertation probes into the relation between the eastern enlargements of EU and NATO. Even though to an extent EU and NATO have something in common, there are big differences between them such as their goals, characters etc. Consequently, EU and NATO's eastern enlargements are interweaving. That is to say, on the one hand, EU supports NATO's enlargement, and vice versa. On the other hand, EU and NATO always squabble over specific issues, which denotes that they are struggling as well as cooperating. Lastly, the author deals with the influence of EU's eastern enlargement on the world.The dissertation's innovation is as follows: (1) It systematically and thoroughly analyzes the reasons for EU's eastern enlargement, in terms of not only economy and politics, but also culture, society and the axis role France and Germany play; (2) It probes into the relation between the eastern enlargements of EU and NATO, that is, EU and NATO are struggling as well as cooperating; (3) It comprehensively expounds the difficulties facing EU's eastern enlargements.The author firmly believes that EU will successfully fulfill its eastern enlargement, which is bound to promote the world's peace and prosperity, advance the civilization and progress, as well as to enhance cooperation, although EU encounters with so many barriers.
