The Origin And Tread Of Development Of Korea Peninsula

Korea Peninsula, where Korean lived generation by generation through thousands of years with the same language, culture and living habits. Korea peninsula problem resulted from many different factors. Japan planted the roots of trouble by occupying Korea peninsula and adjusting their occupation army on the peninsula soon before the end of the Second World War. The Soviet Union and America made the division come true by claiming their own field on the peninsula, which resulted into the socialist North Korea and the capitalist South Korea that opposed to each other by 38 degrees north latitude as a military line after the Second World War. The Korea War and its armistice intensified the division situation.With the help of international society, North Korea and South Korea from 1970s began to contact among the people, cooperate and exchange in economy, which set up a solid base for achieving the unity. The formal meeting between the Red Cross of both sides opened the door of normal contact and swept away much trouble for political negotiations. Four Sides Talking Mechanism was established in Dec. 1997, which urged China, America, North Korea and South Korea, who signed the armistice in those days, sit around the talking table again for the unity of Korea peninsula and pushed both sides to improve their mutual relationship and adopt a conciliatory attitude. The successful meeting between two heads of government and the signing of Common Announcement in Jun. 2000 marked a new stage of peace, reconciliation and cooperation. The meeting and Common Announcement reached five agreements on unity reduced the possibility of military clash greatly, and helped to relax and stabilize Korea peninsula situation, prompt mutual understanding, improve their relationship and made a new stride forward to peaceful unity.After the cold war, the change of international situation provided the solution of Korea peninsula with a relatively peaceful environment in the present days and hereafter, which is a positive factor for the peaceful solution. But there is still manyindefinite factors which restrict the problem. Especially, the differences between North Korea and South Korea on politics, ideology and who is the best representative of Korea in international society are still very obvious. The development of economy relationship makes slow progress. The situation of military opposition is not removed completely. Much military forces still stations on the line 38 degrees north latitude and military clash is on the verge of breaking out, so there is many obstacles in the process of unity. Because of the special geographical position, each Powers attaches much attention on their benefit on the peninsula. The struggle of these Powers on the peninsula makes its situation more and more complex. But generally speaking, the trend of unity can not be reversed. If both sides continuously strengthen their political, economical and cultural contacts and exchanging, unceasingly enhance their understanding and trust, remove their hostility, keep peninsula stable, emphasize their nation benefit, adopt a gradual and peaceful way, in the equal, consulting and peaceful principle, they will achieve the goal of unity definitely.
