This research is focused on Claudio Monteverdi's madrigal books four and five which were probably made in early 17c. It revealed Monteverdi's "second practice" compositional idea and the creative concept features of the madrigal comprehensively and systematically from the aspect of creative idea, compositional techniques and music ontology analysis. In 1600, Giovanni Maria Artusi had published his dialogue set which was called L'Artusi, ovvero delle imperfettioni della moderna musica. Soon after that, the famous argument of Artusi and Monteverdi had been taken. The controversy was that the second practice composers who were represented by Monteverdi went against the traditional compositional rules which are called Istituzioni armoniche maken by G·Zarlino in 1588. In this debate, Artusi's attack was mainly against two madrigal volumes four and five in which contains"second practice"compositional techniques. Surprisingly, the two volumes has not been swallowed up by the rebuke but a blessing response and draw unexpected attention from the public. Because of this, it has significant meaning to study Monteverdi's madrigals deeply. This research reveals the features of two volumes in Monteverdi's madrigal music specifically by the collation of historical data and musical analysis . Thus, we can clearly see that Monteverdi has made great historical contributions in music genre of madrigal in Italy.
