A Study On The Military Suicide Ideation Scale And Its Application In Armymen

Studying the armymen's suicide ideation is the objective needs strengthening the battle effectiveness and promoting the healthy development of the armymen's mental. It is also an important task of constructing the psychological theory about the Martial Psychology and Quality Education. Although there have been some demestic research on suicide ideation, the research on the armymen's suicide ideation is just in the beginning, it's achievements are relatively fragmentary. It is weak in the theoretical research and lays particular stress on speculative exploration. The study that combines theoretical analysis and empirical method is very poor. There is lack of measurement instrument aimed at armymen, so it is hard to investigate systematically the developmental characteristics of the armymen's suicide ideation.In view of these problems, the target of this research is to disclose the structure of the armymen's suicide ideation, to compose a scale for them and to explore the characteristics of their suicide ideation. The procedures are as follows: firstly, construct a theoretical structure model based on the literature summation and the half open-ended and half close-ended inventory survey; secondly, make out a initial scale for the armymen's suicide ideation according to the structure model and apply it to investigation in order to obtain the empirical structure of the armymen's suicide ideation, then form the formal scale; and lastly survey the characteristics of the armymen's suicide ideation with the self-designed formal questionnaire. Following are our main research conclusions:1. Armymen's suicide ideation was in the military activities and military environment, individuals experiencing occasional feelings of intent to end their own lives, but failed to take action of achieving this purpose.2. After researching on the suicide ideation of 2822 armymen from the land forces, the navy and the air force and 10 army services, we concluded that the structure of multi-factors including three factors of pessimistic, depression, despair.3. The scale of the armymen's suicide ideation had been proven to be of fine validity and reliability through examination.4. According to confirmatory factor analysis, this model yielded a moderately good fit, scale items significant predicted the related factors.5. The sex differences existed in the armymen's suicide ideation. Male armymen scored higher than females.6. Difference of the suicide ideation existed among those armymen in different posts and ranks. On the whole, soldiers were in the highest, the lowest officer.7. The age differences existed in the armymen's suicide ideation. On the whole, 20 years of age group and the 20-24 age group in each factor and the total score were significantly higher than other groups.8. The different degrees of being educated existed in the armymen's suicide ideation. Bachelor or above group were significantly lower than other groups.9. Differences of the suicidal ideation existed outstandingly among those who had different period of servicing. In the pessimism, depression, despair and total score, 1- year group and 5-year group scored higher. The changing order was as follows: 1- year >2- years>3 -years>4-year.Five years and above, the scores on the despair factor was on the rise.10. As a whole, there was difference among the land forces, the navy and the air force, the suicidal ideation score of the Air Force group was higher than other groups in each foctor.
