To research television drama, we can rely on many sides, such as the development of history, the type of narrative, the social functions, the running of industry, and so on. As a whole, it involves in three dimensions: art, commerce and culture. From this mentions, a successful television drama must be a cultural commodity that able to realize its artistic value, commercial value and cultural value. As one type of television drama, the youth idol play cannot deviate this track. This article will research the way to success of South Korean youth idol play form this three dimensions and the present situation and the development trend of Chinese youth idol play under the new background.Introduction: To define the concept of the youth idol play with speak of the type of television drama, and outline the present structure of the youth idol play ,and demonstrate the research value of this article.Chapter One: To analyse the main characteristics of South Korean youth idol play under the new background of global-popular culture and consumerism culture. Under the new background, South Korean youth idol play has five characteristics: commercial, scale, entertainment, popularity and global-availability.Chapter Two: To analyse the strategies on value of South Korean youth idol play. The first strategy on artistic value: As an art, television drama has its art attribute. Thus it is necessary to realize the artistic value for the production of television drama. Inevitably, as one type of television drama, South Korean youth idol play has already made the perfect type model after the development more than ten years. Through the analysis of three basic elements (character type, plot type and audio-video type) for South Korean youth idol play, we can understand its concept on play creation that it cannot depart from its model no matter how to change the plot. The second strategy on commercial value: Besides an art, television drama is also a commodity. It has commodity attribute. Thus television drama need to realize its economic value in order to form good circumstance and promote the industry development. In order to win economic benefit and social benefit, South Korean youth idol play adopts the"trademark"strategy, which takes advantage of"idol star and trademark stretch". The third strategy on cultural value: Television drama, which embodies culture attribute, can express culture and in turn restricted by it. Thus it's necessary for television drama to embody culture and realize its cultural value that influences and guides audiences gradually. South Korean youth idol play avoids its shortcoming and resets its national culture, in addition that it absorbs and integrates the western culture. Finally, South Korean youth idol play welcomes and accepts the challenge in an new appearance of"the eastern culture".Chapter Three: To analyse the experiences obtained form South Korean youth idol play. Through the analysis on the current situation of Chinese youth idol play, we can conclude that Chinese youth idol play will win the benefit from its artistic, commercial and cultural values, and make the"stand in China and run to all the world"come true, only if it can resolve the problem thoroughly on the type, industry and global-native of the youth idol play.
