Based on the error analysis, this research makes an empirical study on linguistic errors in spontaneous speeches of English majors in order to offer some suggestions on oral English teaching.Nowadays, most researches in China have focused on the analysis of written errors, while few researches have been done on the spoken errors, even the spoken errors made by English majors. In order to draw people's more attention to spoken errors, the author chooses oral errors to analyze. The present study is operated through questionnaires, interview and the method the author herself conducts the oral English teaching. Then the whole thesis is to answer the following questions: Should errors be corrected? Which errors should be corrected? When should errors be corrected? How should errors be corrected? Who should correct errors? The results indicate that: firstly, both teachers and students hold correct and positive attitudes towards spoken errors and error correction. Secondly, among the errors students made, the grammatical errors are most. Then the followings are phonological errors, lexical errors and expressive errors. Thirdly, according to the learner difference in personality, teachers should take different measures to correct spoken errors. Fourthly, correction in the appropriate time and in the appropriate method should become the pursuit of all language teachers. In the end, the author puts forward the limitations of this thesis. She hopes that a longer time and larger subjects in the research should draw the later researchers'attention.
