| The Dobama Asiayone was one of the most important political organizations in the history of Burma's nationalist movement. Between the year of 1930-1941, The Dobama Movement led Burmese raise the climax of Burma's nationalist movement.The Dobama Asiayone came into existence on May 30, 1930. Its members adopted the appellation"Thakin"instead of the customary prefix of U, Ko, or Maung. The slogan of the Dobama Asiayone was"Burma is our Country, Burmese is our literature, Burmese is our language, love our country, cherish our literature, uphold our language".In the initial stage, the activities of the Dobama Asiayone included of assembling to discussion, distributing leaflet, giving speeches and teaching how to sing the Dobama Song. The Yenangyaung Conference which held in March 30-31,1935, indicated the Dobama Asiayone has become a nationwide political organization. In 1936, the Dobama Asiayone raised and led students strike successfully, gradually seized the leadership of Burma's nationalist movement. Aung San, U Nu, Chan Tun and other excellent student leaders joined the Dobama Asiayone. In 1937, Nagani Book Club which dominated by the Dobama Asiayone became the base of spreading advanced thinking in Burma.In 1938, the Dobama Asiayone led the biggest anti-imperial, Angloprobia nationalist movement in the modern history of Burma, that is"The Thirteen Hundredth Year Strife". However, the split in the Dobama Asiayone at the same year weakened the leadership of the strife. When the Second World War broke out, the Dobama Asiayone united other political parties in Burma and formed the Burma Freedom Bloc. The slogan of the Burma Freedom Bloc was widely heard"Britain's Difficulty is Burma's Opportunity". June-August in 1940, because of the British government's repression without restraint, many leaders in the Dobama Asiayone was under arrest. The activities of the Dobama Asiayone shifted to ebb.Through study, The thesis proves that: first, the Dobama Asiayone made great contribution to Burma's modern nationalist movement. It is the main leader of the nationalist movement in the1930's. It not only promoted the spread of Marxism, but also trained many excellent leaders who were very helpful to independent Burma. Secondly, understand the Dobama Asiayone's historical limitations objectively. Because of the complex of the class element, the Dobama Asiayone was not formed one mature class. Because without mature ideology, the Dobama Asiayone didn't find an ideology which accorded with Burmaese practice. Because lack of political struggle experience, the Dobama Asiayone went astray, began to cooperate with Japan. |
