Investigating literary theory in the whole world,whether in the Chinese literary theory, or in the Western Literary, various concepts about "imagery" have been taking a large proportion and playing an important role. However, comparative studies of Chinese and Western images are still in a dim academic flied, studies existing are very little or are limited to fragmented view or Comparison schools, lack of general care and systematic research. Therefore, this article is to do comparatively studying from comparative Poetics and historical angle to build base of Chinese imagery poetics.This paper firstly clarifies historical development of concepts of Chinese and Western imagery systematically and thoroughly, grasping the overall profile of its development, making the course of its development stages, inspecting the deep mutual relations among stages. Secondly, this paper penetrates and interprets the general characteristics of Chinese and Western images--general character and individuality from various perspectives, and conducting a deep analysis, putting forward some personal opinions. Finally, this paper grasps the plights encountered in the context of contemporary Western imagery, and exploring the Way to transformation of Chinese and Western imagery on two levels of literary theory and literary phenomenon.In short, this paper does a more systematic comparative research for Chinese and Western imagery,breaking the previous scattered comparative research limitations and the missing of overall sense and history sense, resulting from above factors.at the same time also doing an useful exploration for establishment of a complete set of imagery poetics to meet the contemporary context.
