| The 20th century was the century that people broke loose from western colonial rule to gain national independence and rejuvenation. On the cultural patterns of world, western culture's dominant position was weakened by the rise or recovery of a variety of non-Western ethnic culture. In this historical wave, the African continent set off a cultural renaissance which was about its own existence of culture and history and identity of its unique value. They attempted to go to the center of world history and it was extremely difficult for the black world.In this renaissance, people did not exclude the western culture or other foreign culture when they emphasized the "African Personality", "black". Instead, they utilized its advanced ideology and culture as their own. Thus a kind of black culture that was integrated or cross by the European culture and African culture appeared. Under the influence of this multicultural atmosphere, musical cultures of Africa show the characteristics of cross which can be seen from musical creation of Africa piano. The music theory "African Pianism" was put forward by Akin Euba who was an ethnomusicologists and composers of contemporary Nigeria which became the main area of music of Black Africa in the 20th century. African traditional music conceive by the way of Percussion, the playing skills of Percussion combined with the complex rhythms of African instrumental music lay a good foundation of the formation of African piano style.Phenomenon as a unique African Piano features, cross-cultural crossover of piano music of Africa are all of great research value. Some African composers actively engaged in African Pianism creative practice and wrote many excellent works,the works such as Sonata No.2 in C'the passion'(Ayo Bankole), Wakar Duru:Studies in African Pianism, Nos.l (Akin Euba),, African Miniature Songs Without Words, Book I (Paul Konye), Dusk(Nkeiru Okoye). This article will analysis and study on contemporary piano works of Talking Drums (Joshua Uzoigwe).From the standpoint of a Chinese academician,I will introduce the unique African style which was created by the combination of traditional music material and European creative skills and explain the meaning that the art form of cross-culture would reflect to make people understand that the old "cultural relativism" may no longer be the only criterion for a certain cultural values. The important thinking mode of contemporary ethnomusicology is to put folk music into the human environment to investigate. |
