Features Of Foreign Trade English And Its Translation Criteria

With the development of economic globalization, foreign trade English (FTE) becomes more and more important in international trade and its translation has been attracting more and more attention. Since FTE belongs to English for Special Purpose (ESP), its language certainly has its own distinctive features. But the current translation criteria cannot suit FTE translation completely for FTE translation has its own unique features. On the basis of research achievements of translation criteria at home and abroad and combining the analysis of FTE features and its translation criteria, the writer summarizes the feasible criteria for FTE translation, aiming to provide help and guidance for its translation.FTE shares the common similarities with common English, but it still has differences in such aspects as use scope, stylistic features and lexical meanings, owning its own unique features, so general translation theories cannot be directly applied to FTE translation. Therefore, it is of theoretical value and practical meaning to establish translation criteria of FTE on the basis of the unique features of FTE. Up to now, many scholars and experts have made many beneficial attempts in FTE and its translation criteria and have made some achievements, but further researches are necessary. On the basis of the features of FTE, the present thesis summarizes translation criteria of FTE. The purpose of the thesis is to provide the feasible translation criteria for FTE and also guidance for testing and evaluating translation quality.The thesis firstly gives a brief introduction to FTE, and then analyses its features and reviews the representative translation criteria at home and abroad and finally sums up translation criteria of FTE through case analysis: faithfulness, exactness, customariness and appropriateness.
