A Study Of English Translation Of Chinese Poetry From The Perspective Of Fuzzy Language

In the 1960s, as the automation control expert in University of California, US,L.A. Zadeh set up fuzzy sets which had found possible ways of solution to the problem that precision could not solve.The combination of fuzzy theory and linguistics brings fuzzy linguistics.As a new subject, fuzzy linguistics not only promotes the development of linguistics, but also provides a new angle of view to the translation studies so as to broaden the field of it.Poetry is the main form of classical Chinese literature creation.It is also a splendid pearl of Chinese traditional culture.The ancient poetry is an artistic language with accented rhythm, harmonious metre, succinct writing, rich connotation and profound artistic conception. Translate ancient Chinese poetry into English could carry forward Chinese traditional culture and make China known by the world, so it has great practical significance.The theory of fuzzy linguistics verifies that language fuzziness is universally existed. Based on this point, a study is made by combining the fuzzy linguistic theory with the English translation of ancient Chinese poetry. The thesis includes altogether six chapters.The first chapter is a short introduction of the thesis.The second chapter gives a brief account of fuzzy language.The third chapter analyzes the origin of the fuzzy language as well as the manifestations.Chapter four is a discussion about the aesthetic value of the fuzzy language in ancient poetry and the translation.Chapter five elaborates the fuzziness in translation criteria and translation process of ancient poetry. It also analyzes fuzzy language applied in translation strategies when people translate the ancient Chinese poetry into English.As to the last chapter, a conclusion is made.It gives a conclusive opinion of the thesis and points out the shortcomings.At the same time, a further study is being expected.
