Being a transitional period of prosperity from tradition to modern after World War 1, the Jazz Ages saw varied women groups which are focused on money and marriage. In this age, the capitals have accumulated in a fast speed, people are urgent to manifest them immediately and do things unconventionally or unorthodoxly. In the world of old and new, the traditional convention has been shackled and been changed quickly. Fitzgerald makes use of jazz musical arts as the showing.techniques in a broad sense or as a kind of metaphor to satirize the essence of the age. In the transitional period of prosperity from tradition to modern, the women seek the balance between the true love and money and discuss this problem in a more open way. Some people attacked twofold standards that are when a girl chooses a boy as her husband one is true love, and the other is status and money. Traditionally, the female make use of her beauty, rich family, and pure sense to love a poor boy. But in the Jazz Age, the concept of their family and the age is forbidden; they marry with rich men, which create the tragedy of the women. Daisy is a typical one.In the eyes of Gatsby, Daisy is the incarnation of property and one of "golden girl" His worship- Daisy is also a kind of worship of wealth. Fitzgerald's creation is in the Jazz Age. The features of the age decide the characteristics of the women in his novel. This paper analyzes the society, history and background of that age. The tragedy of Daisy is created by the subordinate social status, the lavishness, the dissipation of jazz ages, the conventional economical status, and money worship or her nihilism. The thesis is organized in five parts:chapter 1:The Introduction, questioning all the opinions that attribute Daisy's tragedy to that two men, focusing on the aspects of her characteristics, ignoring the decisiveness of the tradition and concluding Daisy is thevictim of Jazz Ages. Chapter 2:Defining the working definitions of several terms of feminism in this paper. Chapter 3:discussing the tragedy of Daisy:many tragedies decide her tragedy, such as family, personality and marriage. The thesis explains-the dynamic process of Daisy and submits to nihilism and egoism. Chapter 4:The social and economic reasons are analyzed. We analyzed the relationships of love, marriage, self-will, women's chastity, men's licentiousness, self-dependence,man-dependence, women's economy and social conditions to put forward the preparation for surrender to money and her tragedy. Chapter 5:Analyzing the two-face cartelistic of Daisy and the double sense of Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald never realized the essence of woman's problem, never reached the peak of criticizing patriarchal ideology thoroughly. He functions accomplice unconsciously in Daisy's tragedy. The conclusion summarizes the elements that lead to Daisy's tragedy and concludes that without changes of their economic and social conditions, women's struggle for self-fulfillment and self-independence is paradoxical and love is surplus and lastly timeout to be tragic. We get the conclusion of an offering on the altar of women's marriage. From the feminists'perspective, women should have corrected attitudes towards marriage and love, avoided of becoming the slaves of male and money, and avoided of being the tragedy of the age.
