As to the birth and development of Chinese novel, the modern novel researchers and scholars believe that philosophers' books, historical records and myths are the three major origins. The philosophers' books of Han Dynasty worked as a link between the Pre-Qing philosophers' books and weird fictions during the Wei Jin Dynasties as well as mystery novels, playing a very important role in the development of Chinese novel. This article takes Huai Nan Tzu, Shuo Yue, Xin Xu and Annotation of Literature and Customs as examples to explore the novel elements in philosophers' books of Han Dynasty. There are three chapters in the article.Chapter One mainly discusses the novel elements of the Huai Nan Tzu, which can be divided into two parts: the historical fable and legend. The historical fable under the Taoism dialectics illustrates characters go through happiness and sorrow, fortune and misfortune, featuring wisdom in the personality. Meanwhile, the plot is full of twists and turns along with the development of the story. The research of the Huai Nan Tzu legend shows there are many things in common between this myth and the novel in the image building and plot constructions.Chapter Two mainly discusses the novel elements of the Shuo Yuan and Xin Xu. First, it introduced the Confucianism of Liu Xiang's effects on the images of the monarch and minister in these two books, pointing out the characteristic of the monarch is"respecting the worthy ministers and loving the people"while the minister features"loyalty and wisdom". So the images of the monarch and minister have become the symbolic and facial make-up characters. Then, for the research in the plots, it no longer just discusses whether the plot is complete or vivid, but puts forward two special plots to do further research via carful analysis, and conclusion.Chapter Three mainly talks about the novel elements of the Annotation of Literature and Customs. According to the formation of the book, it points out most of the stories are from the folks with rich folk characteristics. Based on the research of the narratology, and affected by the traditional historiography, it uses a complete point of view in the third person. Ying Shao also tries to apply the objective novel narrative ways in the book. The last point to mention, in the Novels of Gods and Monsters, it does classified research in accordance with the attitudes of the characters in the book towards the gods and monsters.
