| Henan province, which locates in middle China, is the origination of Chinese civilization. Chinese Drama was born in Henan province with a long-standing history of drama performance. In modern times, social environment has greatly changed which leads to a new situation of drama performance in Henan. This thesis investigates general situation, ecological environment and the effects of media on drama performance during the period of the Republic of China, with Kaifeng area as center.This thesis includes several parts as following:The first part: General situation of drama performance during the period of the Republic of China.The second part: General situation of stage play during the period of the Republic of China.The third part: Investigations on ecological environment during the period of the Republic of China. Reformation of drama performance was not suspended by political unrest. New intellectuals involved in the reformation of drama performance have made significant contribution to the development of drama in Henan province. At the same time, the government has strengthened the supervision by examining the revise of scripts and the performance places.The fourth part: Newspapers about drama performance during the period of the Republic of China. During the period of the Republic of China, newspapers in Henan paid highly attention on drama performance. Lots of advertisement, reports, and editorials about drama performance emerged on newspapers during that period, which speeded the interaction between media and drama performance. Concerns from newspapers intensified the competition, enlarged the influence of performance and stimulated new concepts about drama performance.
