In international business activities, translation is one of the most important competences. However, not enough researches on the testing of translation has so far been conducted and very few researchers are discussing how to test business English translation competence. The development of a rich variety of testing theories and translation theories lays a sound foundation for this study.The present study undertakes to define translation competence which can be tested. This thesis aims at analyzing the discussions about translation competence both at home and abroad and makes a certain empirical research in order to find specific components of business English translation competence. At the same time, combining the communicative testing theory, the features of business English and the genres used in business activities, this study puts forward the principle of materials selection and proposes effective test item types. At last, the author puts forward some suggestions for scoring criteria and gives a brief analysis of the face validity of the testing items.
