Doris Lessing, a prominent writer in the current British literature history, is famous for her diversified themes,special female prospects and bold exploration in writing. The Golden Notebook, published in 1962, is her most well-known masterpiece. New Historicism, a social and cultural view featured by the post-modernism, has a great influence on the traditional historic outlook and the creation of historic novels.Based on the previous research results and the background of the writing, this paper tries to analyze the image of the characters,the narrative strategies and the artistic characteristics from the aspects of New Historicism, then shows Lessing's high technology in dealing with the complicated relationship between history and literature, history and culture.The paper is divided into six chapters:The Introduction Chapter mainly introduces the research trends of Lessing and The Golden Notebook at home and abroad. The First and Second Chapter introduces New Historicism and the reflection of New Historicism in The Golden Notebook. The Third Chapter mainly inspects the female consciousness in the context of history and deconstructs the male image in order to achieve the goal of the harmonious two-sex world. The Fourth Chapter analyzes the unique narrative strategies in The Golden Notebook, thus reflecting the bold exploration on the form of art. The last chapter is the Conclusion. Lessing examines and characterizes the history by a new prospective and discourse, which clearly shows the spirit of New Historicism. The paper adopts a new historical prospective and studies The Golden Notebook comprehensively. It can be said that, to a certain extent, this opens up a new way of thinking and adds to the research blank in Lessing's novels.
