A Perception On The Arts Of Post 80s Which Adopts Cartoon As A Major Manifestation

Nowadays in China, cartoon and animation, as visual languages and symbols, are becoming more and more popular and emerging in a variety of art exhibitions and art works. Many young artists adopt the "cartoon" element into individual their works of art. After a period of time, efforts and tries, they form a certain artistic style, and create more diverse forms.From some statistics data and the exhibitions/works that I have carefully noted, most of the artists that use this cartoon-based visual language born after 1980, which we fondly call them "the post 80s". Someone tried to outline the portrait of this generation with description language, such as "Cartoon Generation," "Jelly Generation" "QQ Generation", "Virtual generation" and so on. This generation of young the artist has a unique "cartoon complex", and they are continuing to innovate in the area of cartoon image. They are growing up in the generation full of the cartoon culture and mass culture and try and create works in all the art aspects including easel paintings, sculpture, installations, multimedia arts and other fields. From the forms and the contents, the impacts of cartoon and animation can be found anywhere in their works.As popular culture, consumer culture and traditional culture are the main steams of artistic languages of the artists to expand their creation in nowadays, the extensive cartoon art, as contemporary new art forms, there is a fundamental reason for the practice and significance. This article is to discuss this art practice of extensive cartoon art, by analyzing the social change and television media development led by technological revolution, as well as the "aesthetic" concepts of cartoons which impacts the art trends of the "post 80s" cartoon art. Also this article is to discuss the relationship between and the characteristics of "the post 80s", the relationship between the animation culture from Japan, Europe and the United States and "the post 80s" cartoon of artistic trends, the development and performance of arts with cartoon-style nowadays, also the representative artists of contemporary cartoon drawings and their works. This article analyzes the characteristics of cartoon art deeply, the influence of cartoon art to young artists, and also the rationality of the phenomenon of joining cartoon elements and traditional culture together. Of course, "the post 80s" are still very young, they need continuous efforts and innovation, to enrich their artistic language and expand its artistic expression and artistic way.
