Analysis Of Popular Culture In Marxist Perspective

Popular culture is a culture scene in modern society, which brings people more concern, and its development shows more and more prosperous. So its role, function, significance in the present social development has aroused people's concern and reflection. Popular culture appeared firstly in western developed countries, therefore, western researchers' awareness and reflection on the phenomenon of popular culture carried out deeply and extensively than domestic. The major scholars in our country adhere to the view of the Frankfurt School in studying popular culture, who takes reject and critical attitude of elitism and focus on popular culture's negative significance to society, which leads to the theoretical one-sidedness. Therefore, re-examining popular culture in Marxist perspective has important theoretical value and social significance. Marxist view on culture shows that the human have been creating their world and themselves through the cultural activities, which transcend constantly cultural reality and thus pursue and achieve cultural ideal of people's liberation and free and comprehensive development. Thus, being spirit creative activities and result of meaning production and distribution, its emergence and development possess necessity and rationality. We find that, in multiple perspective of historical, dialectical and practice generated, the generation of popular culture has its foundation of commodity economy, social politics, modern scientific technology and social masses, the development of popular culture characterizes by its discipline, which passes through its the source of power, the form of expression, the patterns of development, it emerges as contradiction of two rules in development because of intertwining and permeating with negative effects. More importantly, popular culture has not only its rationality in emergency and development, but also its immeasurable positive effects in promoting people comprehensive development, cultural system integration update and social progress. At present the development of Chinese popular culture highlights the "double-edged sword" effect, which requires us to view and construct correctly current Chinese popular culture with scientific attitude and method in order to make it develop healthy and orderly. In this paper, we accord with the guide line of dialectical materialism and historical materialism. In Marxist perspective, we attempt to make popular culture reasonable and positive inspection, find out popular cultural active meaning to promote cultural system and social progress, devote to analysis the problems in the reality development process of Chinese popular culture and build positive, healthy, ordered Chinese popular culture reasonably. Novelty of this paper is listed as follows:First, it started studying in multi-perspective of practice, history and dialectics. The multiple dimensions provide solid theoretical foundation for Marxist cultural theory being beyond every modern faction and a new way of expositing popular culture for us. Based on this, we should treat the popular culture with peaceful and tolerant attitude instead of elitism or populist localization in order to face and identify this cultural phenomenon that exists in reality society. Second, it takes up cultural dialectics of Marxism. The method of cultural dialectics called as "practice—culture—people" is profound logic in Marxist philosophy. In Marxist perspective, "critical practice activities", "human sensuous activity," "cultural creative activities" identify with the same activity. With practical cultural activities, people create, adjust and optimize the objective world and also change, improve and enhance the people themselves. By doing this, people constantly make their essence enriched and comprehensive, also overcome their own limitation and generally go toward the goals of people's liberation and free and comprehensive development. These revolutionary changes open a new way for further study of culture and provide methodological basis for the analysis of popular culture also.
