Chinese Abstract Arts originated from Shanghai, and we can't ignore Shanghai when talking about Chinese Abstract Arts. The reasons that Shanghai became the important Chinese Abstract Arts city are relevant to its geographic location and its colonial culture. There is an obvious character in the paintings of Shanghai-many a artists choose the single element to "replicate" their paintings, so the compositions present the character of "complicated". Does it mean that Shanghai Abstract Arts shaped its own district characteristic when it absorbed western modern arts? The author discussed the doubt with several abstract artists of Shanghai, reviewed and sorted out the compositions of "replicated" and "accumulated", combined the theories of arts reviewers and consultants from home and abroad, consulted intersexuality understanding methods, and at last provided her own viewpoint after thoroughly explored the "complicated" of abstract arts. The viewpoint went that "complicated" just acted as a wide-open composition but not as the unique Shanghai abstract arts; it existed in every phase of arts of human beings but was used widely in modern abstract arts, and it demonstrated different meanings under different artisans. So "complicated" was not the Chinese abstract as Gao Minglu and Su Xianting considered, it was a public art experience; at the same time, the universality of this form showed that it developed not from a closed time and space but as a process of openly absorbing and back flowing. We could combine the conception composed by Nicolas Bourriaud, French critic and consultant, to explain why our arts have the common elements in pluralism development, and then exactly grasped the development opportunities of culture and arts taken by globalization.
