C.S.Perice considered that pragmatism was a scientific methodology. He analyzed the truth, meaning and symbol pragmatically and regarded pragmatism as an effective method to confirm belief and take action. His pragmatism had deep enlightenment and profoundly influenced the later philosophers who regarded it as the starting point and the necessary steps. So it could not be neglected to study Pierce's pragmatism deep, through and systemly. The paper contains five parts. The introduction mainly analyzes the generation, influence and meaning of pragmatism. Then Chapter I mostly discusses the foundation and the trend of pragmatism which contains three aspects.First, it primarily expounds that Darwin's biological evolutionism provides theoretical basement for the generation and development of pragmatism. Followingly, it discoursed that inheritance of pragmatic transcendentalism tendency. Specifically Kant's transcendentalism is the source of Perice's pragmatism. Thirdly, Perice's pragmatism have the tendency of practicism which emphasizes the importance of practice and action. In short, this part mainly concerning the scientific basis and theoretical sources of the pragmatism.Chapter II chiefly elaborated the methodology of Perice's pragmatism which contained four parts. The first section, Peirce's inquiry theory is expounded and its thought procedures are explained and elaborated.Next, Peirce's meaning theory is stressed that the significance of the concept lied in the efficiency of the actual action. Therefore, the main task of the meaning theory is to achieve the effect. And then is about the Peirce's truth theory. He thought that the truth was the subjective effects Achieved through the action which has a tendency to subjective idealism. Fourth is about the Peirce's symbol theory which discusses detailedly the modification about symbol theory. In a word, the second part is a description for Peirce's understanding, attitude and view in every filed. Chapter Three mainly analyzes the influence of Pierce methodology for the follow-up philosophers, which contains four aspects. The first aspect primarily discussed that the impact of Peirce's inquiry theory for J.Dewey and W.James especially for Dewey's thought. The second section is about the influence of Peirce's Theory of significance for P.W.Bridman's operationalism and Lewis's conception pragmatism, and the important one is the P.W.Bridman's operationalism as well as their significance. The third section is about the influence of Pierce's truth theory for W.James's useful truth theory and J.Dewey's instrumentalism, and the key is W.James's useful truth. The fourth aspect concernning the effect and the evaluation of Peirce's symbol theory for Apel and C.Morris.Conclusion has sumed up the analysis of the text and had an assessment for Peirce's methodology and the significance.By the grasping and analysis of Peirce's pragmatism methodology, the thought skeleton of theme was mastered, then problem was processed by using "posting problem, analysis problem and solving problem".At last the essence of the problem comprehensively and systematically had been mastered, and an excellent master's dissertation has been finished.
