Doris Lessing is a well-known contemporary British writer who was honored with the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2007. Her unique novel The Golden Notebook is a masterpiece in Contemporary British Literature and the 20th century Feminist literature, which has been translated into multiple language and sold tens of millions volume. Because of the novel which contains rich content and peculiar narrative style, Lessing lays a foundation in western modern literary arena. Though the research about Doris Lessing and The Golden Notebook has a lot of achievements, it has some topics to study further. This thesis attempts to investigate the subject matter and artistic value of the novel and reveal its rich content through studying the narrative strategy and gestalt significance from the narrative point of view.This thesis consists of five parts,which are composed of introduction, commentary and conclusion. The commentary part has three chapters.The Introduction gives a brief introduction about Doris Lessing and her work and gives a full picture of the current researches on Doris Lessing and The Golden Notebook at home and abroad and also gives a brief introduction of this thesis's research angle and features and illustrates this thesis's value and significance in the area of academic studies.Chapter One is the analysis of narrative strategy in The Golden Notebook with the theory of narratologies and postmodernism. Doris Lessing reveals the age's situation and the contemporary women's splinted spirits through the postmodern skills of hypertext structure, collage and montage that makes The Golden Notebook exceed the previous novels.Chapter Two is the analysis of the gestalt esthetics in the novel. This part explores the artistic features of the novel through studying the narrative elements of color, space and body. In the novel, the five notebooks which marked by different colors as a kind of symbolism and structural support of the text indicate the contemporary people's plight and exploration. The space which as a kind of physical and psychology constructive reveals the contemporary women's double living conditions of free and captivity. The women body as the subject in the space directly implies the contemporary women's cause of schizophrenia. These three narrative elements separate but overlapping in the novels. They constitute a whole to reveal the cause of the women's schizophrenia and self-reflection on life which make the novel a text of great variety meanings and give us a"gestalt"with rich content and aesthetic value.Chapter There is about the significance of The Golden Notebook in the literary history and the study of cultural poetics. The Golden Notebook restarts a new era of women writing through inheriting and expanding the tradition of female writing style. The novel which have positive value of cultural poetics establish a special Lessing world in post-modern world through the text form and provide a hopeful answer for contemporary people who live in the chaos world bases on concerning the human destiny from the perspective of feminism.Conclusion On the basis of the above discussion,this paper gets a conclusion:The Golden Notebook exerts profound influence on contemporary feminine literature and literary narration innovation through using the unique narrative strategy which record truly the situation of last century and reveal the complex and confuse mind of the contemporary people especially woman on gestalt significant form; Lessing who thinks about the women issues base on human problems and use the text form to reveal the predicament of human existence surpasses the traditional women writers and reflects humanistic concerns of the Nobel Prize in Literature.
