The economic relations between Japan and Taiwan played a very important role in the period of Sato Eisaku cabinet (1964-1972) before the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations. This paper combed the economic relationship between Japan and Taiwan in three aspects trade, investment and loan based on analyzing the two areas'politics, economic background and international situation. The paper point out this kind of economic relationship is not only a manifestation of the booming capitalist economy, international adjustment of industrial structure in the postwar years, but also a display of Japan and Taiwan's developmental situations in political and economic areas. This paper revealed the essence of the relationship and its influence on China-Japan relations of'new-style subordinate economic relationship','new cooperative model between developed countries and developing countries or areas'and'outcome of Japan's economic diplomacy'in Sato Eisaku cabinet period. In the same time, the paper discussed the economic relationship how to affect the Japan, Taiwan, Japan-US trade and the China-Japan relations. According to investigation and analysis of the economic relationship between Japan and Taiwan in Sato Eisaku cabinet period, we could not only broaden researchable ways about China-Japan relations and intensify understanding how politics and economy influencing each other, but also can learn from the experience of Japan-Taiwan relations to promote China-Japan relations and Japan-US relations nowadays.
