Nowadays more and more scholars have been studying Lu Xun, especially as a translator. The study of Lu Xun has a history of about one hundred years, ranging from the study of his thinking, essays, and novels to comparative study of him with other writers or thinkers. Lu Xun's ideas on translation are treasures for the translation studies in China. With the help of Skopos theory of the German functionalism, the thesis tends to describe and explain Lu Xun's translation thoughts. The thesis also explores Lu Xun's translation strategies and the selection of text under the special social-cultural and social-historical contexts. This thesis attempts to fully elaborate and analyze the translation thoughts of Lu Xun from multi-aspect and a new angle, performing tentative research and analysis on his translation practice. The following problems will be discussed in the thesis.Firstly, supported by Skopos theory, the thesis can overcome the limitation of the previous discussion on Lu Xun's translation ideas in literal translation and free translation.Secondly, the thesis offers more space and time on Lu Xun's translation, which can overcome the limitation of the short essays. There have been a lot of studies of Lu Xun's translation. However, because of the limitation of length, the readers'understanding will be limited.Thirdly, since he had various purposes on translating, Lu Xun adopted different translation ways. The thesis makes a clear analysis on Lu Xun's translation strategies.Fourthly, Lu Xun's translation has specific social circumstances, so the thesis expounds Lu Xun's translation from his social circumstances. In all, the thesis tends to explore Lu Xun's translation from a new angle. At the same time, the thesis elaborates on the contribution of Lu Xun's translation to modern Chinese.
