With the economy and social development, the exchanging activities between China and other countries are more frequent than before. As a result of that, the exchanges and cooperation around the world put forward higher requirements for the translators'and interpreters'quality and abilities. Because of the old and backward education ideology and teaching methods, the number of translation talents in our country cannot meet the market needs even though a great number of foreign language graduates have been trained year by year. How to resolve this contradiction and cultivate outstanding translation talents is the most important problem that we are facing at this stage. In this thesis, the author first briefly recalls the translation education history at home and abroad, and then explores and analyzes the current condition and some problems existing in the current translation postgraduate education. During the research, the author designs a piece of questionnaire about the cored questions, interviewed some famous experts coming from some colleges and universities, and had some deep talks with some students on how to promote the translation education of English postgraduates in order to provide some useful advice for the present translation education system. The content of this thesis is composed of the following chapters: Chapter One---the introduction of this thesis. In this part, the author clarified the research background, the research purposes, the research questions and the its significance. Chapter Two recalls the development process of the translation education in China and abroad. Chapter Three focuses on the description of the present condition and some existing problems in the translation education of MTI at present, then the author has a further study on the deeper reasons from various aspects why these problems are existing, including the arrangement of the curriculum and its specific content, the teaching methods, the teachers'qualities, the teaching materials and, the last but not least, the market demands on translators and interpreters. In Chapter Four, the author analyzes the main problems existing in present translation education. In Chapter Five, the author comes up with some constructive advice for current translation education from different aspects, including translation education ideology, the teaching content, innovative teaching methods and ways, and innovative teaching evaluation, etc. This chapter is the central part of the thesis, and the author wishes this thesis would be helpful in promoting and putting forward the current translation education's development in China. Chapter Six, the author draws a specific conclusion about the research.Through analyzing the answers in the questionnaires, the author finds the current translation education doesn't get out of the old and traditional education mode, ignores the times'needs and falls behind the rapid social development. For instance, translation education still focuses on literature translation; teaching practice has always been the weak link in the training procedure of postgraduates'translation abilities. Because of lacking translation practice and ignoring the social demands in education system, the students can hardly adapt themselves to the new circumstance at all immediately after they are employed, which resulted in the waste of the limited time and resource. For the problems found in questionnaires, combined with a large number of documents and interviews, the author propose that the modern translation education should be directed by the social and market demands and the supply-demand condition, integrate theory with practice and keep paces with times, then more and more qualified translation talents will be able to be cultivated. The author wishes this thesis would be useful in improving the teaching quality, promoting the development of translation education and training more qualified translation talents for our society.
