This study analyses the reasons for the success of Mongolian dances through a systematic review of their development since 1946 combined with a special consideration for both their historical background and the techniques used in their creation. Thus, it endeavors to point out the line of development and the common principles behind the creation of Mongolian dance. The present paper is made up of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. The introduction defines the object, the methodology and the relevance of this study. The first and second chapters select some representative dance works as case studies. Their analysis is conducted by considering aspects such as the choice of theme, the procedures employed for its enactment, the performing style and the aesthetic of the dance idiom. The variety of aspects and perspectives adopted in this analysis allows for an evaluation of the actual meaning and historical value of the works in question. The third chapter reviews 60 years of Mongolian dance creation. It examines in a rational and objective way the changing times and the factors leading to the formation of different dance styles and dance forms. These include:some objective factors such as social development, reforms and artistic trends of a given period; subjective aspects connected with the creators; the influence of outside culture and models; the impact exerted by the establishment of Mongolian dance institutions on dance itself. The conclusion summarizes and highlights the epochal characteristics of the emergence and development of Mongolian dance creation.
