Brief Analysis On Deng Tingzhen's Poetry

Abstract:Deng Tingzhen, an excellent official of Late Qing Dynasty, was an outstanding national hero as well as a celebrated General during the period of the Chinese ban on opium-smoking and the opium trade and the anti-British struggle. What's more, he was a distinguished scholar and poet. His academic works and literary works with the high literary and artistic value are good for our learning and research even today.In view of the lack of research results on Deng Tingzhen's literary achievements up till now, this thesis tries to do a comprehensive and systematic analysis on Deng's poetry and other literary works. By packing up Deng Tingzhen's stories, this thesis emphasizes on analyzing the influence that the experience of banning opium-smoking and the opium trade and of being demoted to Yi Li brings to his literature idea. Through the comprehensive review and detailed research on Deng Tingzhen's works, it explores the ideological content and artistic achievements on his poetry, essay and couplets. In a word, the thesis targets to make an objective and comprehensive comment on Deng Tingzhen's contribution and influence in the literary history.
