The"customization mechanism"of lacquers is a special phenomenon in the cultural history of Chinese lacquers. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties as well as the Qin and Han dynasties, the ranked consumer group which the consumption subjects were mostly the royalty and dignitary drove lacquers into directions of high-value and high-tech. Combined with spirits of the times, lacquers had become the respective of material culture and artistic ideological trends of the time. It could be said that the"customization mechanism"derived from the powers-based royal consumption was the main impetus that propelled lacquer arts into higher developments. This impetus was the very continuity and accumulation of Chinese lacquer arts, which it made to be the national intangible culture and the respective of material aesthetics in China.From the Song and Yuan dynasties, the process of the privatization of lacquers had been prompted. Developments of local lacquer industries provided lacquers of"advanced customization"with technical and human resources. With the appearance of the consumption group formed by social cultural elites, the morphology of the advanced lacquer products had been enriched and the artistry had been promoted. Artistic styles of lacquers had begun to display two different kinds, which were the noble royal style and the style pursued by the literati. All these had provided model resources and aesthetic references to the innovation of process technologies, which excepted for lacquer arts and artistic creations based on the contemporary people.
