Criticism Of Decoration And A Critical Decoration

Decoration is a field infiltrated with desire, power, fashion and cultural imagination in our daily life. It changes with cultural background of different times, and in the meantime, it is impacted by economic power. It owns a wide spread of participants, tangling with various human emotions as ideality, frustration, complacency and anxiety. Such complexity enables it to provide art making with lingual and creative context.The current thesis analyzes the popular culture– decoration in a form combined with social investigation and cultural research, aiming to explore its internal operating mechanism, visual producing patterns and ways to shape public taste. Art making is also conducted in this thesis on the basis of cultural research with an effort to explore art making methods other than former personalized and inspirational ones, so as to come up with the possibility of critical decoration. This effort is a practice of the methodology from cultural research to art making in the subject matter of decoration.
