The Contemporary Value Of Harmonious Confucian Thought

Harmony is the essence and central theme of Chinese culture, and also one of the basic spirit of Chinese traditional culture. Pursuing a harmonious development of the society is always one of the goals of government, and it's also a popular social ideal. At current era, our country has kept a high economic development speed, industrial civilization and urban civilization have gained a unprecedented development, however, there are lots of disharmonious phenomenon in fields of politics, economics, culture and even morals. There are also many contradictions and problems which affects the steady of the country and the harmony of the society. As a result, how to deal with these problems and to build a society in which man and man, man and society, man and nature can develop harmoniously has become an important task needing urgent solutions.Harmony is the character and also the essence of Confucianism. Harmonious theories from Confucianism value with "harmony is precious", think with "merging but different", and pursing a state in which man and himself, man and others, man and society, man and nature are all harmonious. From Confucianism, man can gain the state of harmony between him and himself by self-cultivation, then gain the state of harmony among men, between man and society, between man and nature. This agrees with the policy of constructing socialistic harmonious society. That is why it's necessary for us to do deeper research on the harmonious theories from Confucianism. We should find out the source to construct socialistic harmonious society from the traditional Confucian Ethics, dig out the modern value of the harmonious theories from Confucianism and provide the theory and method for constructing all-round harmonious society.This thesis discussed the existence and major contents of the harmonious theories from Confucianism; it divided the theories into three levels:harmony between man and himself, harmony among men, harmony between man and nature. They are described as both a way of thinking and a value orientation. Aiming at the disharmonious phenomenon in current society, it is discussed in this thesis three aspects of the meaning of the harmonious theories from Confucianism:self-cultivation for harmony between man and himself; merging but different for harmony of the society; harmony between man and nature.The harmonious theories from Confucianism is the theory source of harmonious society, they have widen the thought of constructing a harmonious society, broaden the understanding of "harmonious society" theory, and it is good for us to deal with the problems in the society. As a result, rearranging the basic Confucian spirit and basic Confucian thoughts and reconsidering the contemporary value of the harmonious theories are with no doubt practically meaningful for constructing the harmonious society and carrying forward the traditional Chinese culture.
