Listening comprehension, one of the most important ways through which people receive information in daily communication, plays an important role in the learning of the English language. English news, an language variety which is totally different from daily communication English, has some particular features in its vocabulary, grammar, syntax and so on. Because most of materials used for English news listening comprehension training are directly excerpted from News broadcast programs of English-speaking countries, they often include and reflect the latest and vivid developments in the English language. Hence, English news listening comprehension is one of the best ways to provide students vivid phenomenon in the development of the English language. According to latest researches in the field of teaching and learning in English news listening comprehension, however, the students are usually described as of limited basic language knowledge, not-well-motivated, while the teaching and organization of class usually described as boring, passionless. Based on these facts, the author of this thesis designed the questionnaire aims to investigate the actual status quo of current teaching and learning of English news listening comprehension in college.The questionnaire were distributed to students in Southwest University of Political Science & Law and Chongqing Nanfang Translators'College. Based on the data collected from the questionnaire and finds of previous researches, the author aims to put forward some effective countermeasures. The thesis can be divided into four parts, as are genesis, significance and methodology of the research; analysis on the specific characteristics of teaching of English news listening comprehension; questionnaire and analysis of the status quo of teaching and learning of English news listening comprehension in college, and advised effective countermeasures which includes strategies to motivate students, optimization of the classroom teaching and organization, reinforcement of listening comprehension strategies and so on.
