| One hundred years ago, art design in Europe strived out of the morass of religionary restriction through the movement of ART NOUVEAU. For the sake of re-consideration and reference, researches on art nouveau are becoming more and more popular in these days. Utilizing"inner-facing"and"outer-facing"research methodologies, the aesthetic style of art nouveau is determined to be"tender and decorative", which is particularly demonstrated and discussed in the historical chain or cycle.From a couple of Chinese and Greece aesthetic concepts, namely tender vs. strong and graceful vs. grand, aesthetic style of art nouveau is introduced in the first part of the thesis. The"learn from nature"design thinking and practice of art nouveau are analyzed theoretically, then the inevitability of its emergence is augmented from technology development, literature thoughts, innovative material of the time. And the trend of beauty taste is testified from the analysis of line application in sculpture, building, canvas and so on in art nouveau. Subsequently, pure beauty chase of art nouveau is demonstrated after the expatiation of symbolization,"just for art"movement during the late 19th or 20th century. Ultimately, the common characters of art nouveau and modern art is summed up, and its guide significance to modern art theory and art design is also pointed out despite of the more than one hundred years history of art nouveau. |
