The points stated above make it possible for us to discuss the relationships between Lu Xun's novels and traditional fictions from the perspective of A Brief History of Chinese Fictions. The theory of fiction genre and narrative text has been applied in this thesis. In terms of fiction genre, the relations between Lu Xun's novels and traditional fictions can be explained from three aspects:transcendence and deconstruction, reference and breakthrough, apparently unconnected with inner connexion. So the novels from Call to Arms and Wandering are secretly connected to the fiction genres. The complex diversity indicates possibilities in phenomenon of literature. Therefore, we should consider the relationship between modern and tradition objectively. If we discuss the question further, we could find out that even in the modern intellectual-elite literature, some traditional fiction genres still play an important role in their writing. The fiction genres, such as the Tang legend, historical tales, satirical novels, human feelings novels and Huaben fiction, are imitated, continued, metamorphosed and even surpassed in the works of Chinese modern literature. Meanwhile, at the opposite of modern novels, traditional fiction genres are discarded and exceeded. However, it shows the influence of traditional novels on modern literature in a sense.
