Mothers in ancient China wre responsible for the conceiving and begettin offspring , and sometimes shared responsibility with their husbands for the forming of sons'moral value and personality.By the responsibility , they were connected with their sons mentally and materially. The mental connection is mothers'loving-kindness and sons'filial piety , and the material link is that the mothers would protect their sons'material interest and make their effort to improvement of the sons'social status and reciprocally the mature sons would pay a debt of gratitude matierally. The concept which mothers'riches and honour must be from sons and vice versa , had been vividly reflected in Shichi. However , there has not aroused enough academic concern. So , based on the theory of gender studies, this paper examines mother roles and relations between mothers and their sons presented in Shichi from the approaches of close reading. This paper unfolds in the following sequence: Introduction briefly states the significance of the research, theory application and relevant findings achieved so far. Chapter one to Chapter two analyse the types of the mothers images and the relations between they and their sons .Chatpter three examines cases in Shichi and a conclusion is followed in the last chapter. There is a appendix in this paper for further research.According to Shichi, the designed way which mothers met something holy and then conceived their sons was to enhance authority of these sons since they all became emperors or the kings later. So these mothers were setoff of their sons. For the mothers who educated their sons , especially emperors or kings, the mothers'status was decided on their sons', as a result , the mothers were subsidiaries of the sons. The mothers of common sons were nothing than a part of their sons because they sacrificed themselves to their sons'prospect. The paper concludes that mother was a signifant whose significant is employed by her son because he or his father was controlling the world.
