| This article is based on a sound phenomenon in films - why it will not make us feel real when using sounds from our real lives in films and why sounds that we produced in studios are the 'real' sounds that we need in films?The author focuses on how to build 'real' sounds for films and proposes the definition and nature of the sense of reality in film sounds which is that the sense of reality in film sounds is an artificial sense. It is a virtual reality beyond our normal experiences in daily lives and it is a real sense felt and experienced by us when we are watching movies.Starting from the sound classification in films, the article compares the sense of reality between pre-production and post production and analyzes the viewpoint about 'post produced reality' from skills, arts, psychology etc. The author arranges many materials from lots of classical movie sounds and researches the methods and the experiences from film sounds productions. This article concludes a system and a method for building real sounds in film which includes: 1) factors of building 'real' film sounds; 2) skills of building 'real' film sounds; 3) common methods of creating sound effects and classification of sound effects.Based on that, this article goes through many clips with classical sound designs from those famous films. This article takes lots of examples and studies different fields of them from psychology, physiological psychology, 3D frequency spectrum, physical attribution of sound and so on. The author tries to learn the difference between 'real' sound in films and sounds in real life by objectively analyzing changes of parameters in sound. At the same time, this also helps to provide foundations for your subjective feelings. Finally, it also analyzes the phenomenon that we have different feelings about the same sound clip in a film and in a real particular life environment. |
