This thesis researches Yu's novels and prose deeply and systematically in the views of"tragedy consciousness"and"aesthetic character". In specific interpretation, as well as his political statement, literary discourse, poetry, diary, autobiography, etc, to inspect and grasp his life experience, ideology inclination and individual character as a whole.This paper firstly inspects"tragedy consciousness"and related categories'origin and change in history and theory fully and accurately. It tries to reveal the essential attribute in interconnectedness and differences between Chinese and western tragic consciousness through contrast and research of western tragic consciousness, Chinese ancient tragic consciousness, Chinese modern tragic consciousness. This paper holds that Chinese ancient literary creations have relatively strong"tragedy consciousness", but relatively being short of"tragedy spirit"in western classical tragedy. The Chinese modern writers and their creations"tragedy consciousness"gradually catch up with the"tragedy consciousness"and"tragic spirit"in western classical tragedies.Depending on explaining the tragic consciousness and related theory, this paper treats Yu's tragic creation as the research objects, and concludes the tragic consciousness in his creation as"self"tragic consciousness, survival tragic consciousness and dead tragic consciousness. This paper's statement about Yu's"self"tragic consciousness is supported by Freud's theory of spirit analysis. This article holds that the survival tragedy consciousness and dead tragedy consciousness in Yu's creation implicates Schopenhauer's pessimism outlook on life and tragedy aesthetic theory or is affected to be formed.In this paper , it will induce"the character of aesthetic"in Yu's creation as"nature"aesthetic,"weak"aesthetic and"grief and indignation"aesthetic, and further reveal the beauty of"nature", namely"self"tragic consciousness of aesthetic form,"weak"beauty, namely for the survival of the aesthetic consciousness of tragedy,"grief beauty", namely for the death tragedy consciousness of aesthetic which will form the creation of Yu's"tragic consciousness"and"aesthetic character"as a whole and prove it rigorously and deeply.This thesis at last summarizes the whole passages by Yu's life art saying"art is the life, and life is the art", namely to make the two points of arguments (tragedy consciousness and aesthetic character) be one, and reveals their internal connection of complement.Concerning the methodology, the first chapter focuses on making order of tragedy, and the second focuses on theory of tragedy texts, and the third chapter focuses on tragedy aesthetic. This paper use social historical criticism, psychoanalysis, and aesthetic criticism to carry out interpretation.
