Tentative Analyse Of The Difference Between Wei Jing "New Naturism" And Natural Aesthetics

This thesis, through analyzing the views of nature in Wei and Jin Period from the perspectives of Chen Yanque's"New Naturism", attempts to revalue the connotation of"New Naturism"as well as its relations to the development and forms of Naturist's esthetic consciousness in Wei and Jin Period, without adhering too tightly to Chen's original meaning.In the introduction, the author presents a brief review on Zhuang Zi's Naturism, Theo-Naturism with Dong Zhongshu as the representative and Wang Chong's critical views.The first chapter discusses the formation and development of Chinese metaphysical Naturism from the perspectives of traditional thought resources, Confucian deterioration, the eruption of New Huang Laoism, cloistral lives and talks and the shifts of scholar-bureaucrat's mentality. With the introduction of representative views of Xuan-Xue, which include Ruan Ji, Ji Kang, Wang Bi, and Guo Xiang,this chapter will differentiate the Xuan-Xue philosophy of the Wei and Jin dynasties and the traditional Natural Views of Han dynasty, which in turn build the theoretical foundation for the next chapter.Chapter Two presents the origin and connotations of"New Naturism", analyzes its relations to Xuan-Xue philosophy, and concludes at last the features of naturist esthetic consciousness, which is connected to the analysis of the form of aesthetics in the next chapter.Chapter three mainly analyzes the typical art forms of Wei and Jin dynasties with regard to the painting through researching the development from figure painting to landscape painting to explore the effect of New Naturism on this process. Meanwhile natural esthetics thought in calligraphy is elaborated.Chapter four further discusses the relations among Xuan poems, Xuan doctrines, and natural scenery, pointing out that under the new natural esthetics Xuan poems'trend is toward pastorals for New Naturism's emphasis on humanity and individual emotions.It is concluded that New Naturism of Wei and Jin dynasties is bestowed with inner connotation and outer shinning. Compared with the Theo-Naturism of Han Dynasty, New Naturism returns naturally to its origin under the Xuan-Xue philosophy background. With the intrinsic communication between nature and human emotions, New Naturism pursues the combination of spirit and nature.
