Book of Han is the earliest dynastic history in China,written by Ban Gu in the Eastern Han Dynasy, which incudes twelve biographies of Emperors, ten Zhi,eight tables,seventy biographies of notability.(Afterwards the book was divided into 120 parts.)This is a book that reflected language feature in mediaeval times. It mainly recorded history of the rise and fall of the feudal regime from 206 BC to 23AD. As time and energy are not plenty, I only study twelve biographies of Emperors. Book of Han reflects language feature in mediaeval times.Yan Shigu is a famous philologian in Tang Dynasty. He summarized different opinions about notes of Book of Han. In this paper, I research his notes by synchronic approach and diachronic approach, hope to learn the characteristics of the Tang Dynasty vocabulary and certain terms of the development and evolution trajectory from the Eastern Han to Tang Dynasty, and to explore the development of Chinese Vocabulary general law.The whole text is divided into four parts:The first part is to provide an overview of the introduction on the Book of Han and Yan Shigu's notes of the basic situation.The second part is the word classification in accordance with the function and significance of words, and makeing plane analysis to study the features of the Tang Dynasty vocabulary.The third part is to study the situation of inherited vocabulary in the Tang Dynasty tracking down the Yan Shigu's notes vocabulary . Part IV is to further analyze two questions about the two-syllable word, which were found in the course of the study.Through these four aspects of research, we must have the Tang Dynasty vocabulary understanding,so that we will recognize the developing path of the monosyllabic words and two-syllable word.
