| "Moutrie " is the first musical instrument store selling western musical products. Opened in 1843, it has gone through nearly 200 years. Musical stores nowadays has taken on contemporary visage which differs it from all previous eras. Being an important sector in urban music culture industry, musical stores impact the contemporary music culture in Shanghai with its special operation as well as marketing and that explains its significance in urban music culure study in comtemporary ethnomusicology.Taking into consideration that no one has touched this area from ethnomusicological perspective before, I attempted to make order the historical development of Shanghai musical stores through diachronic description of its distinct history and exhibit its quantity, distribution, category and characteristics of industrializational operation through synchronic exposition on basis of field and desk work which lasted more than one year. In addition, through thorough case study of "Parsons Music" and "Best Friend Music", I reveal the pattern of its internal operation and cultural marketing and clarify eventually the dual attributes of culture and economy in this industry and their relation as well as its influence on Shanghai urban music culture. |
