When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd:A Requiem "For Those We Love" is a requiem created by Hindemith,which is set on American poet Whitman's poem When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd.The work has mature skills and profound meaning,it also possesses high artistic values.This article is divided into four chapters:the first chapter is an introduction of the work's creative background,thus wants to learn why the composer wrote this work;the second chapter mainly analyses the features of the lyrics and tries to understand the work's cultural connotation;the third chapter starts from the text analysis,then goes to the motive,melody, harmony,tonality,form,etc,thus gives a gradual and deep analysis of how the work constructs its materials;the fourth chapter is a study of the whole structure as well as the application of the techniques,then we can have a better understanding of the work's features.This article tries to have a whole and deep study of the work though the music analysis.
