Interrogative Sentences in《A Dream of Red mansions》Interrogative sentences occupy an important position in people's communication. The most widely-used sentences which express thoughts are the declarative sentences, but we cannot form conversations if we use them only.From the point of linguistics,the importance of interrogative sentences is obvious.For instance,when we study a foreign language,we will study the formation of declarative sentences.At the same time,we should also learn the formation of interrogative sentences,for we cannot communicate without the interrogative sentences.The means of asking is one of the most important expressive ways in language.From the point of grammatical structure,interrogative sentences have special forms.Thus,it has attracted the attention of grammarians.《A Dream of Red mansions》is one of the masterpieces of Chinese novel. Many scholars have discussed it.Some are about the language,some are about others. This article will analyze and study the interrogative sentences of《A Dream of Red mansions》in a more reasonable and probing way,hoping to find out the characteristics of interrogative sentences in it.In this way,exploring the characteristics of interrogative sentences of Chinese in the eighteenth century.This article chose the original texts of《A Dream of Red mansions》as the language data.The reason why chose the《A Dream of Red mansions》is as follows: Firstly,the languages used in《A Dream of Red mansions》are looked upon as a representative vernacular novel of Beijing dialect.Secondly,the scholars who research the languages of《A Dream of Red mansions》hold different ideas.For instance,in Wang Li's books,《Chinese Contemporary Grammar》and《The Theories of Chinese Grammar》,the languages in《A Dream of Red mansions》were used as modern Chinese.But Wu Jingcun holds a different opinion.In his book《The Languages in〈A Dream of Red mansions〉》,he holds that the Beijing dialect used in《A Dream of Red mansions》and today's Beijing dialect have obvious difference in words.As for the differences in grammar,if we compare them,there's no difficulty to find them out.We believe the differences are worth studying.Thirdly,interrogative sentences have peculiarities in grammatical structure and modal words,they are difficult points for foreign learners,so the analysis of interrogative sentences in《A Dream of Red mansions》was chosen.The reason that limits the study range is that many scholars have studied the components of interrogative sentences,there are a lot of references.This article composes of four parts:The first part summarized the object of study,the study of forefathers,and the characteristic,significance,purpose of study.The second part is the principal part,analyzes the interrogative sentences in《A Dream of Red mansions》.Choose all the interrogative sentences and divide them into four kinds:"yes-no" interrogative sentences,alter native interrogative sentences, positive and negative interrogative sentences,specific interrogation.Taking several modern Chinese grammar books as standards to compare them,and the comparison can come from grammatical function,semantics and modal words.Besides,if any exception appears,reanalyze with the modern documents and those of Yuan,Ming Dynasty.First of all,classify and analyze the basic four kinds of interrogative sentences, after catching the characteristics of each one,reanalyze the echo interrogative sentences.The third part is the characteristic of rhetorical question in interrogative sentences. In the four kinds of interrogative sentences that were classified in the second part,select and reanalyze the rhetorical question according to the context.The fourth part is the conclusion.Finally,consult the whole interrogative sentences in《A Dream of Red mansions》to classify and induct the characteristic, then,discuss the difference and similarity between the first eight chapters and the last forty chapters.
