The Grammaticalization Research On "Jiang" In Lao Qida

"Jiang" is especially active in modern Chinese. It can be used as a noun, verb, preposition, adverb, particle, conjunction and so on. It can also be used as morphemes which are composed of various types of words. There are lots of difference compared ancient Chinese and contemporary Chinese. All in all, the uses of "Jiang" developed more and more complicated from ancient times to modern times, and reverse from modern Chinese to contemporary Chinese. As an important development stage of modern Chinese, Yuan and Ming dynasty is also essential to the development of "Jiang". Lao Qida is a representative of Yuan and Ming spoken language which reflects the language features of modern Chinese. "Jiang" in the book is a typical development in the whole course of Chinese language evolution. This paper thoroughly examines the uses of "Jiang" in Lao Qida with the grammatical theory of Three Lay from synchronic approach, and integrates diachronic linguistic materials. The paper provides a systematic discussion on the course, conditions and reasons of the grammaticalization of "Jiang". Each part of speech is one chapter, including the conclusion the paper is divided into five chapters:Chapterâ… : Introduction. The opening chapter gives a general overview of the subject and the significance. Then, we introduce the status of related subjects. Finally, we make out the guiding theories and research methods.Chapterâ…¡: The corpus establishment. This chapter introduces the corpora which are used in the paper. We summarize the purpose and selection of Lao Qida corpus establishment, and describe the basic information of automatic word segmentation and tagging. Also, we do the statistical analysis on the word "Jiang" which is selected in Lao Qida.Chapterâ…¢: The verb "Jiang". In this chapter, we research the verb "Jiang" in Lao Qida with the grammatical theory of Three Lay, and analysis the course of diachronic development of verb "Jiang". Chapterâ…£: The preposition "Jiang".In this chapter, we research the preposition "Jiang" in Lao Qida from synchronic approach, combining with diachronic corpus, analysis the grammaticalization course of preposition "Jiang", and explain the conditions, reasons of it.Chapterâ…¤: The particle "Jiang". In this chapter, we research the particle "Jiang" in Lao Qida from synchronic approach, combining with diachronic corpus, analysis the grammaticalization course of particle "Jiang", and explain the conditions, reasons of it. Also, this research will enrich the theories of grammaticalization.Conclusion. In this part, we sum up the research in general, and point out shortcomings existing in this research. Then, we bring forward some assumptions of further research.
