Both Korea and China preserve a long history in ceramic art. As everyone knows, the ceramics industry is now facing great challenge from the western world. Therefore, we have to take our advantages and meet our disadvantages to achieve mutual advancement. Due to some reasons, cooperation in white ceramic producing lacks between Korea and China. The real condition now is that research on white ceramics making is not active. This article, with a historical and comparative method, will try to research into white ceramic production in Korea and China. Starting from the production of Dehua white ceramic in China and Guangzhou white ceramics in Korea, it compares between the two countries in their production of sorting, historical development, artistic expression and aesthetic features.White ceramics emerged after the production of green ceramics. When ceramic producers master the color presenting rules of Fe2O3 in enamel, they will deliberately decrease the amount of Fe2O3 and then white ceramic is produced. Since the Tang dynasty, the art of ceramics in China has been passed to Korea and Japan, thus both green ceramic in Korea's Goryeo Dynasty and white ceramic in Chosun Dynasty are sub categories of China's ceramic art. They developed under the influence of China's ceramic art. However, both the above two categories of ceramic in Korea represent the distinctive understanding about ceramic art of the Korean people. We can see in them the different understanding of Confucius'philosophy and the Buddhism culture, which presents the plain yet glorious and soft yet strong national characteristics. White ceramic from Chosun Dynasty, especially, embodies certain national feeling. It stands for the calm, collected and perseverant spirit of the Korean people. As the most distinctive category of Chinese ancient ceramic, the production of Dehua white ceramic dates back to Tang and Song dynasty, flourishes in Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasty. For several hundred of years, Dehua white ceramic spreads to different parts of the world and is considered to be the representative of ancient Chinese ceramic art. When reviewing its development, we can see that it emerged in Song and Yuan dynasty, achieved its peak in Ming dynasty and its overall development in Qing dynasty, all of which contributed to the fabulous development of ancient Chinese ceramic. Zheng Liangmu, a famous scholar in Korea, divided the development of white ceramic into three stages. Also, the white ceramic in Chosun Dynasty can be divided into five categories according to their lines feature, color and so on. Besides, he specifically chose Dehua white ceramic in the same period in China to compare Korean and Chinese ceramic art. To make it more convincing, the scholar worked from the smallest to the biggest and compared systematically about their historical and political background, enamel structure, sculptural technics, historical standing and so on.After all the above comparison and analysis, it is easy to find out that the two countries choose two different development routes historically, culturally and economically. They also show differences in ceramic producing art and technics. With both having its own characteristics, it is necessary for them to enhance their communication and cooperation in order to achieve a win-win situation under fierce international competition.
