The study investigates some English majors through employing a questionnaire to know the present situation of the application of the language learning strategies, which tries to find ways to improve language teaching and learning. And makes references for improving learning efficiency and fostering students' comprehensive competence as well.The thesis, firstly, makes a brief introduction about the background of the research, states the needs for the study and arrangement of the thesis. Secondly, it defines knowledge structure and comprehensive competence from the aspect of second language acquisition, and thirdly, it lies emphasis on study of the features of English majors' knowledge structure and comprehensive competence. On the basis of the study, this thesis focuses on the information processing theory and the production of knowledge, and by investigating students through the questionnaires, analyzing the application of learning strategies to 119 English major students, it discusses the relationship between language learning strategies and language proficiencies.Some pedagogical implications are also found in the study, that is, to enhance students' comprehensive competence via perfecting students' knowledge structure.1. Guiding Teaching. Before teaching, teachers should try their utmost to know the present situation of students' application of different learning strategies as well as the need of the students. After that, teachers should integrate how to adopt different strategies to different teaching occasions into classroom teaching. Teachers can never be too careful to pay attention to the feedback of classroom teaching. 2. Knowledge on strategies. Most importantly, students should be aware of the great significance of learning and using different learning strategies in their practical study. After knowing the different functions of different strategies, students are more intuitively in learning. Moreover, students should try to know all the possible learning strategies by means of different methods. 3. In practice, by analyzing the present situation of the class for English major students, the thesis proposes task-based approach which focuses on the output of information and knowledge. Task-based approach stimulates students to conduct autonomous learning, and it requires the role-changing of the students and the teachers, including the design of the curriculum and context. Therefore, Chinese English majors need langugage learning strategy instruction which are most relevant to the successful improvement of English proficiency.
