Analyzing LuJia's Thought About Wu-Wei

Scholars' views are different about the source of the thought of wu-wei in writted by Lu Jia. Some people think it blongs to Confucianism,while others argue that it is the thought of Taoism. And scholars have not got the same opinion. This thesis's view is that if we want to have better understanding about Lu Jia's theory about wu-wei,we must know the key is his thought of association of sage and king and the theory of Human-heartedness and Righteousness. They are the basic spirit of his thought of wu-wei. According to two theories,Lu Jia think that the foundation of ideal order about the society and politics base on the association of sage and king as the moral subject. Basing on principles of human relations, the society will naturally run through the education about Li and Yue which consider Human-heartedness and Righteousness as the basic spirit. This way differs from that in Qin dynasty and emphasizes on the invisible power from the association of sage and king'personality,so you-wei becomes wu-wei. The thought of association of sage and king and the theory of Human-heartedness and Righteousness are consistent with confucius's "to rule through wu-wei". The association of sage and king is the subject with perfect morality and the purpose of Human-heartedness and Righteousness is to found the order of human relations. On the one hand, this order must be founded on the basis of human's self-examination. On the other hand,it is also founded by human.Therefore,Lu Jia's wu-wei blongs not to Taoism but to Confucianism.
