Study Of ESP Teaching To English Majors--Problems And Solutions

ESP, as an abbreviation, represents English for Specific Purposes. Generally, it is divided into EST(English for Science and Technology), EBE(English for Business and Economy)and ESS(English for Social Sciences). With fifty years'development, ESP has become a significant branch in English discipline. Practically, it refers to English applied in various professional areas; theoretically, it is quite an integrated subject mainly based on linguistic theories. Due to the practicality, variety and popularity of ESP, ESP teaching is being widely carried out in the English departments in China's universities. Therefore, a research on ESP teaching to English majors becomes necessary and meaningful.This paper focuses on ESP teaching to China's English majors. Its current situation, problems, and solutions are discussed in depth, towards an improvement of ESP teaching quality in English departments.In this paper, Chapter One gives an introduction of ESP; Chapter Two revolves around the development of ESP both internationally and domestically; Chapter Three justifies the execution of ESP teaching to English majors; Chapter Four reveals the teaching situation and problems of ESP to English majors and Chapter Five puts forth some solutions to the problems in order to upgrade the overall teaching quality of ESP to English majors and Chapter Six is the conclusion of the whole paper.
