As a history, the Cold War has past, but as a kind of thought,it still influences our lives. As more and more documents are released, the cold war history studying is profound.Scholars not only focus on the relations between great forces, but also on the third world countries. This Dissertation is on Eisenhower government's policy to Guatemala and the essence of these policies to Latin America and the Third World countries.Guatemala is just a small country in Latin America. But why did the U.S.Central Intelligence Agency(CIA) plot the PUBSUCCESS to overthrow President Jacobo Arbenz Guzman in 1954? What is the purpose of Eisenhower in Guatemala and what's the result of it? I will discuss these questions in follow parts.Chapter one,the earlier revolution in Guatemala and the responses of the U.S.will be discussed. In this part,I relate Guatemalan general situation, the revolution of President Juan Jose Arevalo, and the strategic benefits of America in Latin America and Guatemala.Chapter two is on President Arbenz's revolution, which made U.S.feel unhappy and worried. So CIA put forward the PUBSUCCESS plan and overthrew Arbenz.Chapter three analyzes Eisenhower hope to construct a materialism showcase in Guatemala, and his policies on and results of Castillo Armas government and Miguel Yd(?)goras Fuentes government. In conclusion,I'll discuss that America always choose anti-communism,when there's a conflict between.anti-communism and democracy. In order to maintain its advantages in the third world and clear the Communism,America imposed its own thought on other countries, which not only brings catastrophe to other countries, but also make itself in embarrassment.
