Published in 1908, The Wind in the Willows is the last piece of works by the English writer Kenneth Grahame. It is a typical animal fantasy.The novel has always been attracting the attention of many scholars since its publication. They analyze the novel from different angles, such as being a fantasy or an animal novel. Moreover, they mostly focus on one of the aspects of the novel, like the themes, the characters or one of the writing techniques. Till now, no systematic study in the romantic colors of this book can be found. This paper attempts to further explore the romantic features in the book through a careful study and provides a systematic elaboration so as to bring a new perspective on the interpretation of this novel and enhance the study of it.This paper contains five parts.Introduction: A brief introduction to the author and the novel as well as a general summary of the current research at home and abroad.The main body can be divided into three chapters.Chapter One: A Brief Introduction to Romanticism in Literature. This chapter will deal with the advent of romanticism in literature and provide further elaboration on the idealism and artistic features in romanticism.Chapter Two: The Embodiment of Idealism in The Wind in the Willows. This chapter will deal with the embodiment of idealism from two aspects. They are the idealism in themes and the idealism in characters. In each section focusing on the respective aspects there will be a detailed analysis of the concrete embodiment.Chapter Three: The Artistic Features in The Wind in the Willows. The use of imagination, exaggeration, symbols and allusions will be elaborated separately in detail with regard to further embodiment of romantic colors in The Wind in the Willows.Conclusion: The romantic colors in The Wind in the Willows will be summarized from the two aspects of the embodiment of idealism and the artistic features. And the significance of interpreting this piece of works from the angle of romanticism will be emphasized.
