The appearance of globalization has brought a new developing opportunity to the rustic literature, which reveals its unique charm because of the ancient and mysterious custom and humanism under the challenge of the western dominant culture. The northeastern culture in Guangxi is the essential part in the culture of Guangxi, but it has been rarely known. Such situation has been changed since Dong Xi's rustic novels appeared.Dong Xi's rustic novels have significant meanings of the age. They not only stand out in the northern contemporary writers but also reveal its unique local culture in the northwestern of Guangxi and send out the local properties. The thesis aims to study Dong Xi's rustic novels, referring to relative documents, such as literary theory, folklore and sociology. The methods of carefully reading and explaining texts are used to analyze and study Dong Xi's rustic novels in this thesis, which is composed of four parts. In the first part, the northwestern world in Dong Xi's novels is summarized. The first part has a review of the contents of the northwestern features in his novels according to natural scenes, countryside life and images of villagers, which outlines the countryside in the northwest of Guangxi. In the second part, the features of Dong Xi's rustic novels are analyzed and concluded on the basis of the review with the means of reading the texts carefully. The unique features of the northwestern flavor in Guangxi, such as mysteries, simplicity and uncultured and tragic properties are the characteristics of Dong Xi's rustic novels. The third part explores the causes that the northwestern flavor is formed. The fourth part points out the meaning of Dong Xi's rustic novels.Dong Xi's rustic novels which have unique northwestern flavor opens up an angle of view in which people begin to know Guangxi and its unique custom and culture. It has become an indispensible part in the contemporary literature. The thesis tries to uncover the mysterious veil in Dong Xi's novels and encourages people to pay more attention to and be familiar to the culture that has a local characteristic in Guangxi.
