The New-life Movement of the National Government was an important historical event. This campaign lasted for about 15 years, with a wide, long and intensive influence.Guizhou New-life Movement started from the founding of the Association of New-life Promotion till Yang-sen's failure of the Construction Movement of Guizhou, and this period generally corresponded with the national New-life Movement. The movement in Guizhou can be divided into three periods. The first period is before the Anti-Japanese War. In this period, the New-life Movement made a lot of detailed programs ranging from the founding of the association, the propaganda and the implementation, the training and the forming of the service group to Xue Yue's New-life Club. It was a comparatively fluent and effective period of the New-life Movement. The second period is during the Anti-Japanese War. In these years, Guizhou was a large strategic home front, and the New-life Movement was carried out by Wu Ding-chang, the former chairman of he Guizhou Provincial Government, with the focus of the prohibition of opium and female weird clothing, the holding of various tournaments of ball games, the Donation campaign, and making response to the Movement of Friendly and Intense Care of the Wounded. All theses campaigns were greatly connected with the Anti-Japanese War.The third period was after the Anti-Japanese War. In this period, Yang Sen, who regarded himself as the constructor of Guizhou, continued the New-life Movement, which already existed in name only, and soon bankrupted with the collapse of the Nation Government. The New-life Movement, which was doomed to fail because of its historical limitation and strong political colors, became an ineffective social reformation without the expected results of their keen intentions. But some campaigns, such as women liberation, hygiene and disease control, reformation of the outdated custom, and the prohibition of opium, also had some positive effect.
